A family from Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, claims the British government borrowed Rs 35,000 from their ancestor, Seth Jummalal Ruthia, in 1917 during World War I and never repaid it. The family recently discovered documents including certificates and correspondence supporting this claim. Vivek Ruthia, the grandson, plans to send a legal notice to the UK seeking repayment of the loan with interest, which he estimates could amount to several crores today. The claim highlights a historic financial dispute dating back over a century.
