India's cheetah reintroduction project is expanding with plans to house cheetahs at Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary, adding to Kuno National Park and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary. Despite challenges, including the deaths of six cheetahs and three cubs in 2025, the population has grown to 30, with 19 cubs born in India. The program, which began with imports from Namibia and South Africa, aims to re-establish the species extinct in India for decades. Eight more cheetahs are expected from Botswana.
