President Donald Trump has nominated former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh to serve as the next chair of the U.S. central bank, replacing Jerome Powell. Warsh, who served on the Fed's Board of Governors from 2006 to 2011, played a key role during the global financial crisis, including designing emergency lending programs. The nomination, which began a four-year term starting February 1, is now with the Senate Banking Committee for hearings amid some political opposition linked to ongoing investigations involving Powell.
