The Mizoram State Election Commission (SEC) plans to hold Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections in April or May, as the current AMC term ends on March 1. The delay is due to the state budget session starting February 17, ongoing school exams, and the financial year-end, which occupy officials involved in the polls. The SEC also considers adjusting the election cycle to avoid such clashes. Meanwhile, the government will appoint a caretaker to manage AMC functions until elections are held. Preparations have been underway since last year, with over 2.3 lakh voters registered across 19 wards. The opposition Congress has announced candidates for 13 seats, while other parties have yet to finalize their lists.
