During the 1947-48 Indo-Pakistan War, Major Prithi Chand led 18 soldiers across the snow-covered Zoji La pass to defend Ladakh. Arriving in Leh, he organized local militia and employed guerrilla tactics against advancing Pakistani forces. Despite limited resources and a vast front, his actions were crucial in securing the strategically vital region for India amidst harsh winter conditions.
