India's Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project achieved a significant milestone with the breakthrough of Mountain Tunnel 5 (MT-5) in Palghar, Maharashtra. This 1.5-km tunnel is the longest mountain tunnel completed on the corridor. It is the second tunnel breakthrough in Maharashtra, following a 5-km underground tunnel completed earlier. The 508-km project, built with Japanese assistance, aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to under two hours and is targeted for completion by August 2027.
