
The Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and the Election Commission seeking responses on a plea to impose expenditure limits on political parties during elections. The petition, filed by NGOs Common Cause and Centre for Public Interest Litigation, argues that the absence of such caps creates an uneven playing field and violates constitutional rights. While the Court acknowledged concerns about enforcement and constitutional freedoms, it scheduled further hearings for April 27 to address these complex issues.
