Ukraine's military intelligence agency (GUR) announced it staged the death of Denis Kapustin, a prominent Russian commander fighting for Ukraine, to foil an assassination plot and trick Russia into paying a bounty. GUR chief Kyrylo Budanov revealed the deception, stating Russia had ordered Kapustin's assassination and allocated $500,000 for it. Kapustin's unit, the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), initially announced his death, leading Russian agencies to pay a bounty to those they believed carried out the assassination, which was then intercepted by GUR.
