The Goa government has introduced a bill to raise the minimum age for Class 1 school admissions from five-and-a-half to six years. This amendment to the Goa School Education Act, 1984, aims to align state regulations with the National Education Policy 2020 and the Right to Education Act. A one-time relaxation will be provided for the 2025-26 academic year, allowing children aged five years and six months by June 1, 2025, to enroll. The bill also tightens age eligibility for higher classes.
