The Mangan district administration in North Sikkim has imposed traffic restrictions on the newly built 400-foot-long Bailey suspension bridge over the Taram Chu on the Chungthang-Lachen Road. The bridge, with a 12-tonne load capacity, allows only light vehicles and one vehicle at a time to ensure safety and structural integrity. Following a glacial lake outburst flood in 2023 that damaged regional connectivity, permits for tourists to visit Lachen and nearby areas will resume from March 9 under regulated conditions.
