Indian Railways has missed its second deadline for installing the Kavach automatic train protection system on the New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Howrah routes, originally set for December 2025. Officials now aim for operationalization by 2026, citing steady progress with 25% of the work commissioned and major components installed on remaining sections. The system is designed to automatically apply brakes to prevent accidents. Previous deadlines of March 2025 and December 2025 were extended.
