
The Delhi government has initiated desilting of 77 major drains and strengthened vulnerable Yamuna embankments ahead of the monsoon to prevent floods. A Joint Flood Management Committee under the Central Water Commission reviewed flood patterns after July 2023 floods, noting rainfall was 23.8% higher than in 1978. Short-term safety measures and retaining walls have been implemented, while a scientific study of the Yamuna floodplain is ongoing, with a detailed map expected by August 2026. Coordination among agencies has been enhanced to improve flood management.
