The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Harjinder Singh Dhami, has accused the Punjab government of political interference following an FIR registered against SGPC employees regarding the disappearance of 328 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib in 2020. Dhami stated the government is challenging the Akal Takht's authority and overstepping its bounds, as the SGPC is recognized as competent to handle its administrative matters. The Punjab government, however, claims the FIR was necessary after Sikh bodies demanded a probe and that the SGPC is using the Akal Takht as a shield.
