
Ahead of the April 9 Kerala Assembly elections, the Communist Party of India (CPI) announced candidates for 25 constituencies, including four incumbent ministers and several two-term legislators. The CPI, a key Left Democratic Front (LDF) ally, plans a united campaign despite financial constraints. Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) declared candidates for 81-86 seats, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan contesting from Dharmadam and former health minister K K Shailaja from Peravoor. The LDF aims for a third consecutive term in the state.
