Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) organised a protest march from the campus to the Ministry of Education on February 26, demanding the implementation of University Grants Commission regulations, enactment of the Rohith Vemula Act, increased funding for public institutions, and the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit over alleged casteist remarks. The march was stopped by Delhi Police at the university gate amid heavy security. Clashes ensued, with police alleging assault by protesters and several injuries on both sides. Around 51 students, including JNUSU leaders, were detained. The university administration condemned the violence, citing rustication of students for vandalism and stating the Vice-Chancellor’s remarks were taken out of context. Protesters alleged police brutality and suppression of their rights.
