
The Jharkhand government has approved the release of 23 convicts serving life sentences following a review of 34 prisoners by the State Sentence Review Board chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The CM directed the creation of a systematic database for those to be released and emphasized awareness campaigns through women's self-help groups for prisoners accused of witchcraft. Officials were also instructed to link released convicts with welfare schemes to support their income generation and social reintegration.
