Iqbal Singh Chahal, an IAS officer and former BMC commissioner, has been appointed as the observer for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election scheduled for January 15. Due to the anticipated close contest, three additional collectors will serve as additional observers. The State Election Commission has also appointed IAS officers as observers for 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra, with special observers designated for areas expecting intense competition.
