A senior Pakistani Islamic scholar, Mufti Taqi Usmani of JUI-F, has declared the lifetime legal immunity granted to the new Chief of Defence Forces, Asim Munir, as "haram" (forbidden) under Islamic principles. The immunity, established by the 27th Constitutional Amendment, protects Munir from prosecution for acts performed in office. This move has reportedly caused internal friction within the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) coalition, with some partners expressing disapproval of the sweeping protection.
