Following the March 1 attack on the oil tanker Sky Light near Oman's Khasab port, India's Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) issued a safety advisory highlighting critical deficiencies on merchant vessels. The advisory noted that crew members, including Captain Ashish Kumar and Dalip Singh, were trapped due to a lack of emergency equipment to break porthole glass for escape during the fire. In response to rising tensions in the Gulf, the Indian government has implemented 24/7 monitoring and directed shipping companies to enhance safety protocols and emergency communication for Indian seafarers in the region.
