India Hate Lab Reports 13% Rise in Anti-Minority Hate Speech in 2025

A Washington-based research group, India Hate Lab, reported a 13% rise in hate speech incidents targeting religious minorities in India in 2025, documenting 1,318 events, up from 1,165 in 2024. Most incidents occurred in states governed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accounting for 88% of cases. Muslims were the primary targets, followed by Christians, with anti-Christian hate speech rising by 41%.
