The Delhi government has deployed a Finnish-made amphibious dredger, the 'Water Master,' to clean the Najafgarh drain, which contributes about 70% of pollution to the Yamuna River. This high-tech machine can remove up to 600 cubic meters of silt per hour, operating in water depths up to six meters. It targets decades-old compacted silt and floating waste to improve water flow and reduce pollution. Officials emphasize this mechanized cleaning aims to prevent untreated sludge and solid waste from entering the river, enhancing flood control and environmental health.
