Assam Holds Traditional Buffalo Fights Amid Legal Challenges and Awaited Approval

Traditional buffalo fights, known as Moh Juj, were held in Assam's Morigaon district during Magh Bihu despite a Supreme Court ban and a Gauhati High Court quashing the state's 2023 SOP permitting such events. The Assam government has passed an amendment Bill seeking to exempt Moh Juj from the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, awaiting Presidential assent.
