Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code Marks One Year with Over 4.7 Lakh Online Marriage Registrations

Uttarakhand's Uniform Civil Code (UCC), nearing its one-year anniversary on January 27, has transformed marriage registration by enabling online applications. Previously requiring physical presence with witnesses, the process now allows couples to register marriages remotely by submitting documents and video statements. Since implementation, over 4.74 lakh marriages have been registered, averaging about 1,400 daily, a significant increase from the prior average of 67. The UCC also supports online issuance of divorce and cohabitation certificates, promoting administrative efficiency and civil rights.
