Clashes between rival factions of Colombia's Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) in the Guaviare department left at least 27 members of Néstor Gregorio Vera's group dead. The factions, which split in April 2024 over internal disputes, fought for control of a strategic jungle area linked to cocaine production. While Alexander Díaz Mendoza's faction is engaged in peace talks with the government, Vera's group continues hostilities following the suspension of a bilateral ceasefire. Both factions had rejected the 2016 peace agreement.
