The Congress party has launched a nationwide 'Save ECHS' campaign, accusing the central government of neglecting the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) through inadequate funding and administrative curbs. Citing a CAG report, the party claims the scheme faces collapse due to a significant shortfall in allocated funds, leading to over Rs 9,000 crore in pending medical bills for ex-servicemen. Congress demands an annual allocation of Rs 14,000 crore and other administrative reforms to ensure the scheme's viability.
