
India and Bangladesh have commenced joint water measurements on the Padma and Ganga rivers as the 1996 Ganges Water Sharing Treaty enters its final year before expiring in December 2026. Teams from both nations are measuring water levels at designated points from January 1 to May 31, with data recorded every 10 days. Discussions for renewing the 30-year treaty have already begun, with special security measures in place for the Indian team in Bangladesh.
