Puri has been officially upgraded from a municipality to a Municipal Corporation by the Odisha government, becoming the state's sixth such city. This elevation, fulfilling a promise by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, aims to enhance civic amenities and infrastructure for residents and visitors. The government also declared four towns as Notified Area Councils and expanded the jurisdiction of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
