A protest against a coal mining project in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district turned violent on Saturday, resulting in injuries to several police personnel and the torching of vehicles. Protesters, who had been staging a sit-in since December 12, allegedly clashed with police when authorities attempted to clear a road blockade. The mob reportedly vandalized and set fire to police vehicles, a coal handling plant, and company property. While officials cited provocation by 'anti-social elements,' some protesters claimed police initiated lathi-charges on women demonstrators.
