
Spanish and Frontex authorities conducted a search for missing migrant boats off the Balearic Islands after the Algerian navy intercepted two vessels. A third boat was found near Mallorca, and a previously unreported fourth boat south of Ibiza was also rescued, totaling 41 migrants on the two boats found Friday. The Western Mediterranean route has seen increased migrant crossings despite overall EU arrivals declining. Spain seeks enhanced cooperation with Algeria and more Frontex surveillance to combat smuggling, while avoiding direct deployment of Spanish forces in Algeria.
