The Karnataka and Kerala Assemblies passed resolutions opposing the Centre's new rural employment law, the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), and called for reinstating the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Karnataka's resolution, moved by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was passed amid BJP and JD(S) protests demanding the resignation of the Excise Minister over corruption allegations. Kerala's resolution highlighted concerns over increased state financial burden and exclusion of certain panchayats under VB-G RAM G. Both states criticized the new law as imposing greater costs on states and lacking rights-based provisions of MGNREGA.
