Assam Awaits Presidential Assent to Officially Resume Moh Juj Buffalo Fights Next Year

Assam's traditional buffalo fight, Moh Juj, was not officially organised during this year's Magh Bihu due to pending Presidential assent to an amendment Bill exempting it from the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Despite the official ban, informal contests occurred in Morigaon district, reflecting strong local enthusiasm. The Assam government hopes to conduct Moh Juj officially next year once legal approval is secured, aiming to preserve cultural heritage and promote indigenous buffalo breeds.
