Governor's Rule Extended Six Months in Mizoram's Chakma Autonomous District Council

The Governor of Mizoram extended Governor's Rule in the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) for six more months due to ongoing political instability and frequent shifts in allegiance among elected members. Governor Vijay Kumar Singh appointed the Lawngtlai deputy commissioner as caretaker from January 7. The rule was first imposed in July 2025 after BJP leader Molin Kumar Chakma was removed as Chief Executive Member amid defections to the Zoram People's Movement, which now holds a majority in the council.
