The Election Commission of India informed the Supreme Court that the special intensive revision (SIR) of West Bengal's electoral rolls faced widespread violence, intimidation, and obstruction, hindering officials' work. Over 58 lakh voters were removed due to discrepancies, leading the EC to question the 2025 rolls' validity for upcoming elections. The EC also reported reluctance by local police to act on complaints and requested safer hearing venues, citing threats to officials. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee opposed the revision, seeking polls based on existing rolls.
