
Ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections likely in April, the Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit the state from March 8 to assess ground conditions, focusing on logistics, security, and administrative readiness. The ECI plans to meet state officials and political parties, identify sensitive areas, and enhance polling booth surveillance with CCTV. Additionally, for the first time, the ECI will monitor central forces deployed during the polls using body cameras and GPS trackers to ensure proper utilization and adherence to guidelines amid opposition concerns.
