The Government of India is redeveloping seven ageing government housing colonies in Delhi, including Sarojini Nagar and Netaji Nagar, covering about 537 acres. The project will replace old, unsafe low-rise buildings with over 21,000 modern flats and upgraded infrastructure. It uses a self-financing model by monetising 69.41 acres of land for commercial and residential use, generating over Rs 35,100 crore to cover the estimated Rs 32,800 crore cost. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate 2,722 flats and lay foundations for 6,632 more under the GPRA Redevelopment Plan.
