
Justice Sujoy Paul was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on January 17, 2026, with Governor C V Ananda Bose administering the oath. Transferred to the Calcutta High Court in July 2025, he served as Acting Chief Justice since October following the retirement of Justice T S Sivagnanam. Paul, who will retire in June 2026, acknowledged his mother, a government school teacher and President's award recipient, for shaping his character. He pledged to maintain the court's purity and efficiency, receiving congratulations from state leaders.
