Maharashtra Mandates Permits for Passenger E-Rickshaws and E-Bikes

The Maharashtra government has mandated permits for electric rickshaws and e-bikes used for passenger transport to ensure uniform regulations across all passenger vehicles, including traditional autorickshaws and taxis. This decision follows a 2016 central government notification and aims to increase transparency, discipline, and compliance in the sector. The transport department has temporarily suspended new autorickshaw permits and plans to introduce a single-window system to simplify the permit process. Permits will apply only to vehicles engaged in passenger transport.
