The Election Commission has ordered the lodging of First Information Reports (FIRs) against four government officials and a data entry operator in West Bengal for allegedly adding fictitious voters to the electoral roll and compromising data security. The officials, including Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), are accused of accepting applications from alleged fictitious voters without proper verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). User access to the electoral roll management system was also reportedly granted to unauthorized individuals. The Election Commission had previously directed their suspension and disciplinary proceedings.
