Maharashtra Labour Minister Akash Fundkar announced that the Centre's social security code for gig and platform workers, effective since November 2025, defines their status and mandates a national social security board for their welfare. This board will provide healthcare, insurance, maternity, and old-age benefits. The state has scrapped plans for a separate gig workers' law, aligning with central directives. Fundkar also noted efforts to clear pending dues of workers from closed National Textile Corporation mills in Mumbai within a year, following court orders.
