The Election Commission of India has ordered the transfer and fresh postings of five IPS and five IAS officers in Assam ahead of the 2026 assembly elections scheduled for April 9. The transfers, including senior superintendents of police in districts such as Majuli, South Salmara, Sadiya, Chirang, and Dhemaji, aim to ensure administrative neutrality. The state government has been directed to implement the changes immediately and submit compliance reports by March 17. Officers transferred out are barred from election duties until the polls conclude.
