Assam has reported a significant increase in its conviction rate, doubling from approximately 25% under old laws to over 50% under the new criminal laws implemented from July 1, 2024. Special Director General Munna Prasad Gupta attributed this rise to increased use of technology, mandatory scientific evidence collection, and videography during investigations, which has reduced hostile witnesses. Assam leads the nation in implementing these new laws, which replaced colonial-era legislation.
