
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a record Rs 17,366 crore allocation for Gujarat's railway development in the 2026-27 budget, a significant increase from Rs 589 crore during 2009-2014. Projects worth Rs 1.28 lakh crore are underway, including redevelopment of 87 stations under the Amrit Station Scheme, with 21 completed. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor is expected to become operational next year, reducing travel time to under two hours, with plans for seven additional bullet train routes approved.
