During the kite-flying season, the use of banned Chinese manja (sharp nylon thread) continues to cause significant harm to birds and humans across India. Despite bans and awareness campaigns, thousands of birds suffer injuries or death, with rescue groups reporting rising cases in Gujarat and Hyderabad. Police in Hyderabad have also arrested individuals involved in illegal manjha sales ahead of Sankranti.
