A parliamentary panel report has found the PM-PRANAM scheme, aimed at reducing chemical fertiliser use, ineffective due to no financial incentives being released to states or union territories. Only nine states were eligible in 2023-24 and three in 2024-25, with limited reductions in fertiliser consumption. The panel criticized the scheme's complex eligibility criteria and recommended simplifying conditions, reducing bureaucratic hurdles, and revamping the scheme in consultation with states to promote sustainable farming and ease subsidy burdens.
