Punjab Farmers Protest Power Shortages Affecting Irrigation; PSPCL Promises Increased Supply
Farmers across Punjab have protested power shortages affecting irrigation during the paddy season, blocking highways and staging demonstrations outside power grids. They allege receiving only three to four hours of electricity instead of the promised eight, impacting crop irrigation and causing financial losses. The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) attributed outages to system-wide cuts ordered by higher authorities. In Phagwara, protests ended after PSPCL assured eight hours of uninterrupted power supply from June 28, prompting farmers to lift road blockades.
