The Election Commission of India has granted initial clearance for the registration of Humayun Kabir's new political party, the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), in West Bengal. Kabir, a suspended Trinamool Congress MLA from Bharatpur, renamed the party after the original name was found to be already registered. The party must now publish public notices, and if no objections arise, it will receive full recognition and can apply for an election symbol ahead of the upcoming state Assembly elections.
