Uttar Pradesh Reports Over 35,000 Arrests and Rs 83 Crore Asset Seizures in Cow Slaughter Crackdown

Since June 2020, Uttar Pradesh has intensified enforcement against cow slaughter and cattle smuggling, registering over 14,000 cases and arresting nearly 36,000 individuals. The state amended its Prevention of Cow Slaughter Ordinance to impose stricter penalties, including up to 10 years imprisonment. Authorities invoked laws like the Goonda Act and National Security Act, and seized assets worth approximately Rs 83 crore from accused persons. Special police teams increased vigilance, leading to a reported decline in illegal slaughter activities and disruption of organized networks.
