Uttar Pradesh Mandates GPS Tracking and Panic Buttons for Public Transport from 2026

Uttar Pradesh will mandate AIS-140 compliant GPS tracking and panic buttons in all public transport vehicles starting January 1, 2026. This initiative, aimed at enhancing passenger safety and real-time monitoring, follows directives from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Compliance will be checked during vehicle registration, renewal, and ownership transfers, with non-compliant vehicles blocked on the VAHAN portal. From April 1, 2026, these devices will also be mandatory for fitness tests and PUC certifications. E-rickshaws and three-wheelers are exempt.
