Maharashtra's government has warned colleges that deny admission to girl students under the tuition fee waiver scheme will face strict action, including possible cancellation of affiliation. Introduced two years ago to boost women's participation in professional courses, the scheme has increased girl enrollment by about 41%, from 85,068 to 1,15,800. Some colleges reportedly require upfront fee payment before reimbursement. The government is simplifying scholarship applications by reducing required documents and prioritizing timely disbursal to ease student access.
