A new project to protect the breeding habitats of sandbar-nesting birds, including the endangered Indian Skimmer, has been approved by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG). This initiative, part of Namami Gange Mission-II, will involve long-term monitoring, community participation, and conservation efforts in the Ganga basin. Trained local communities will assist in protecting sensitive sandbars and raising awareness, complementing existing work on other river fauna.
